It’s that time of year again.
As I told you in 2010, the Princeton Review is a great resource to use in finding info on colleges and universities in the United States.
Each year, a comprehensive, scientific study is conducted on various aspects of our nation’s schools: academics/admissions, demographics, town life, politics, quality of life, extracurriculars, and the social scene (the most interesting to me).
You have to log in to their site to view the rankings … I’ll post a few samples here:
STUDENTS STUDY THE MOST:
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Reed College
- Harvey Mudd College
- California Institute of Technology
- Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering
- Middlebury College
- Swarthmore College
- Grinnell College
- United States Coast Guard Academy
- Princeton University
Hmmm – Harvard, Yale, and Stanford didn’t make the top ten? Interesting.
STUDENTS STUDY THE LEAST:
- University of North Dakota
- University of Central Florida
- University of Mississippi
- State University of New York at Albany
- West Virginia University
- Louisiana State University Baton Rouge
- University of Iowa
- Florida State University
- University of Georgia
- Salisbury University
Way to go making the list two years in a row FSU.
MOST POTHEADS:
- University of California – Santa Cruz
- Eckerd College
- Bard College
- University of Vermont
- Skidmore College
- University of Colorado – Boulder
- Colorado College
- Hampshire College
- University of California – Santa Barbara
- Ithaca College
The UC system continues to represent their potheadedness – two schools in the top ten this year. Colorado as well, but this should come as no surprise from the school system that hosts the 4/20 Smoke Out. I’m betting they’ll fire one up in celebration of making this list.
MOST BEER DRINKERS:
- Ohio University – Athens
- Pennsylvania State University – University Park
- University of New Hampshire
- University of Florida
- Claremont McKenna College
- University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa
- University of Georgia
- West Virginia University
- Colgate University
- Providence College
Looks like some new names are making the list in 2011 – their administrators must be proud (or not).
MOST HARD LIQUOR DRINKERS:
- Providence College
- University of Georgia
- Tulane University
- University of Wisconsin – Madison
- University of Mississippi
- Indiana University – Bloomington
- Ohio University – Athens
- University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa
- Sewanee – The University of the South
- Trinity College (CT)
Trinity college? I’m guessing that’s not the same Trinity College Billy Graham went to, huh?
Anyway, many other categories and rankings are available. I encourage you to create a login and check it out – especially if you’re in campus ministry.
There’s also a lot more to this site than the rankings. You can look up information on almost any school in the United States and get it quickly and accurately. It’s a great resource!

Wow! We made both the “most beer drinkers” and the “most hard liquor drinkers” lists. And all that in spite of the city making the liquor laws stricter and the university buying up property on the strip. Celebrating that national championship too much I guess. I wonder what it will be like next year when we repeat, or even worse when we 3-peat….
Uhh, congratulations?
uh, yeah, congratulations are due on the NC’s, not sure what to make of our partying ranking… i guess the campus ministries around here aren’t as influential as they should or could be, or maybe it means the place is ripe for the picking if they would get out of their entertainment mode…
I will attest to OU-Athens making the top beer drinkers. I graduated from there last year and many of the bars are on the same street as the campus ministry. You should hear about the 20-something (I can’t remember how many) bar shuffle.
